Understanding Infertility
If you have been unsuccessful at conceiving after a year (or 6 months for those over 35), a visit to the OGBYN may be in order. OBGYN stands for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and they are the doctors that specialize in women’s health.
The OBGYN is where you will begin your infertility treatment. The OBGYN can do ultrasounds, bloodwork and rounds of Clomid and Femara. However, this is the extent of their help. If not pregnancy occurs, a patient will be referred to the RE for further testing.
RE stands for Reproductive Endocrinologist and these doctors are specialists in fertility and treatment. Here is where a full bloodwork panel will be done, as well as extensive testing. The RE also does treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
If you have been struggling to get pregnant, make an appointment with your OBGYN as soon as possible. There you can get started on your journey to become a mother. For more information on tests, IUI or IVF, please visit the associated pages in the menu above.
